Most people know Nantucket for its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. However, Nantucket’s local community is what makes it so special. Without the year-round community, there is no Nantucket. Its popularity has led to a number of challenges, including a scarcity of housing options available to the local year-round community critical to the Island. Today, housing is Nantucket’s most urgent problem. The hospital, schools, local government, essential services, and other local businesses all struggle to attract and retain workers.
ACKNow Community Initiatives is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to protecting the local community’s quality of life and improving the lives of the year-round community.
This program is designed to have an immediate impact on the supply of year-round rentals while other programs with longer implementation timelines get underway.
Specifically, this program will provide financial incentives to property owners for converting housing units, including those currently operating as short-term rentals, into year-round rentals for residents who work for local businesses, nonprofits or public service organizations.
